Re: School trips
My elder daughter and my son both went away with school at age 11. Lymm Grammar, as it was then, owned (and still does) a farm on Anglesey where the kids did trekking, swimming and canoeing amongst other things. My kids went about 3 times a year until they left the school.
My younger daughter went to the Isle of Man for a week, with her primary school, when she was 9. She enjoyed it up to the last 3 days when she started feeling poorly. Unfortunately she came back very ill indeed but it was nothing to do with the holiday. She had (we discovered in the course of time) an extra kidney which had become infected and was eventually removed when she was 10.
