"Green cards" don't run-out or expire, there must be other factors involved , Green card holders (permanant residents) have the same rights as American citizens except the right to vote and hold certain Govt. security clearance required jobs , (including airport security, unlike UK airports where it seems the majority of folks operating the passenger x-ray machines seem to have non British accents
