There were also players who had unusual occurances during their careers, like James Donnelly, who in 1951 signed the forms to join Stanley while 100ft up The Huncoat Power Station and Ian Gibson who was given his League debut while still a 15 year old schoolboy. The most unusual without doubt happened to Billy Robinson in 1953, for along with a young lady, he was shot dead in Salford by the lady’s husband!
