I heard that piece on Jeremy Vine where a woman was bemoaning the fact that she was being penalised for paying her phone bill by cheque.
The fact is that once upon a time EVERYONE paid their phone bill to BT by cash or cheque either at the Post Office, Bank or BT shop. To get customers to pay by DD BT offered a reduction in the bill.
However to skew slightly off topic. BT has various broadband packages all based on bandwidth usage. Have you ever tried to find out what your monthly bandwidth usage has been? I have and they make all sorts of excuses to avoid telling you.
