I read about this in the paper yesterday - her daughter put up a poster in her common room in 6th form at school inviting them all.... it ended up on facebook and few other sites as well.

Honestly nowadays would you have a birthday party in your house when there is something like facebook and bebo etc around. You dont know who would be in your house. Safest thing to do is to hire a hall somewhere and party the night away there.
