Many years ago, I remember my dad telling me that King St in Accrington was where 'ladies of the night' would ply their trade, I guess he was talking about the '40's & 50's.
According to him, there were a lot of lodging houses down there that were used for this purpose. He also said that the (Big) Crown, (later Afrikas & Funnies, now Illumia beauty salon) was also a place the girls worked from, and he wouldn't ever take my mother in.
Has anyone else heard this?
