I would have thought that america with all the shootings in colleges and schools would have banned guns/firearms from them.

The argument goes like this:

The second amendment makes it legal and easy to own a gun in America. People who want to kill people, won't stop carrying a gun on campus just because it's not legal to do so, therefore those who don't carry guns on campus are less safe, as they could retaliate. It's said that there could have been less deaths at Virginia tech if everyone was allowed to carry guns.
