I think it also vital to familiarise yourself with fire exits and escape route when you are away from home too.
When I take Ma away, the first thing I do is look at ways out of the place...especially as Ma is not so nimble on her pins.
We are fortunate that with Ma being the user of a wheel chair, most eatablishments try to put us on the ground floor.
