Can’t imagine it being very costly to by-pass the automatically closing doors and stick a new button in the panel to make them manual.

I imagine that due to the accident to your mother the incident will have had to have been reported to the Health and Safety Executive….perhaps all they can do for now is to put a notice up until the lift has had some sort of inspection.
