I recall that, in the late 40s/early 50s, a large shop next to where Catlows Fruit market used to be (top of Broadway and where dry cleaners is now), sold records (old 78 type)
I remember going there with my brother and we were ushered into a large wood and glass listening booth. The assistant, wearing gloves, placed the record on the turntable, and we sat and listened before buying.

That shop later became a furniture store where I bought stuff for my 1st house in 1961(was called Platts)
