Oh sorry, I thought you meant this particular case. Yes whenever I've had to stay in hospital I've only kept enough cash with me for bits and bobs like the odd newspaper. I can't understant why anyone would want to keep more, unless they needed more for taxi home afterwards or something but if there is a safe deposit box then opting not to use it is a bit silly.
I wonder if this poor man was offered?
