Re: The Food Credit Crunch
In the rush to dominate the food market, supermarkets have decimated the milk industry. Dairy farmers are struggling to make ends meet. Some claim to be getting less than it costs them to produce it and have to diversify to try and subsidise the product.
So I get my daily 2 pints of milk delivered by a local farm. Actually to aid in keeping the cost of delivery down, my milk lady only delivers on Mondays, Tuesday, Thursdays and Saturdays. And she collects payment once every five weeks. But I can handle that OK.
Even though it has recently been increased to 50p a pint I will continue to support the local farmer, for two reasons. It helps to keep the milk industry alive and you still get real milk, albeit bereft of a decent amount of cream. Sadly you cannot buy ‘green top’ anymore.
