Well my ancestors in Donegal managed to avoid having to do that - they lived near the coast and had to survive on such peasant food as lobsters. Amazing isn't it that we now pay inflated prices for the 'luxuries' that were considered basic subsistence. I suppose it would have seemed like a luxury though for those not fortunate enough to be able to catch any. Then there were the ones who survived by coming over here and ended up farming in Norfolk. |
