I think you've got ants with a serious psychological problem.

My garden is, just about, one large ant hill but they are all underground. They don't cause much of a problem until they decide to swarm and mate (probably any day soon) when all the males come out with ridiculously large wings and fly around looking for a bit of nooky with a potential queen. I'm sorry to say I usually stamp on the poor little beggars before they can say they didn't die wondering.

I have never had ants' eggs out in the open in my garden. They are usually very solicitous of their babies and tuck them up in underground nurseries. When disturbed, I've seen them scurry away with the eggs in their jaws trying to find another secret place to hide them.

Are you growing any unusual plants nearby?
