Although I passed my driving test at seventeen, and drove my parent's cars when I was up here visiting, I didn't own my own car until I was thirty nine.
In London car ownership wasn't an option. Public transport was quicker and cheaper.
After the deregulation of the transport system, when profit was seen as more important than service, outside of London I found public transport expensive and unreliable.
I lost count of the amount of times I've been stood at Accrington station (the first train never stopped at Church/Oswaldtwistle,) and the train never arrived.
No tannoy announced explanation, and certainly never any staff to ask why the train hadn't appeared, and if the next one might make an appearance.
