Re: favourite musical.
It wasn't a stage production but I really liked the Bernstein/ Ti Kanawa/ Domingo? CD of West Side Story. A great story with a great score - funky, mixing Bernstein's love of then contemporary Jazz with more established operatic devices. The video of "the making of West Side Story" (the version I mentioned) is very interesting - a scene showing Bernstein losing his rag with Domingo because of some musical issue is compelling viewing. Seeing these masters of their art working together with such professional comaraderie (spelling?) is very inspiring! My grandmother was part of Blackburn Amateur Dramatics society so I was brought up on helping serve tea to the performers during performance of Gilbert & Sullivan Operas - Pirates of Penzance was a favourite at the time.
