Being a good samaritan is not exactly an instinctive choice now because if those handing out the thumping to a victim turn on you then you loose. If you defend yourself then you are likely to be up before the court facing a heavier time than those who were perpatrating the assault against the victim you helped. That or the thumping you get is serious enough to put you in hospital because they parted a part of your with a weapon. Even worse it could be both.
