Re: Trouble With Internet

It should only take a couple of minute to get an internet connection by the router. what 'might' be happening is if you turn the PC on first, Windows tries to get an IP from teh router which isn't 'ready' so it gets a fallback IP. you then won't be able to connect till Windows 'realises' that there is a nice shiny wifi network waiting for it to connect to. this could be anything from minutes to hours depending on how friendly windows is feeling that particular phase of the moon.

The trick is to ensure you turn the router on first. When you first try to connect if it fails, check the lights on the router that it has conencted( look what they look like twhen you are working for a clue. (mine has 2 green lights, teh ADSL sync and the wifi one, YMMV). if they aren't as expected then its an issue at ISP end, if they are, hover over teh network connection icon in system tray, right click and choose "repair". This forces it to ask for a shiny new IP and will clear any problems on your end.

With regards to the turn it off or not debate, I do, basically it would be there burning leccy from bedtime (10:30 ish) till 7PM the following evening doing nowt. it might only be a few watts but times that by 20 hours a day and by 365 days a year and it adds up to a fair amount and leccy ain't cheap anymore!( not forgetting the green aspect!)
