We have the same problem ... chatting to a yank a couple of years ago, on or around the 60th anniversary of D-Day ... he hadn't realized that Canadians took part as a unit, or that they took part at all ... didn't realize that we had our own beach, Juno Beach
... and that by the end of the war Canada had the third largest navy in the world ... sure they were mainly Corvettes, but I bet there were a hell of a lot of men in the Merchant Navy who were glad to see those brave little ships flying the Maple Leaf.
And I seem to remember that last god-awful movie about Pearl Harbour ... where the hero took time out to win the Battle of Britain, before getting down to the real war.
