You think you've got problems? Are there any roads with as many names as the main road at the bottom of my road, here in Lymm? It starts off in Thelwall, Warrington, as Stockport Rd., then it's Camsley Lane - Booths Hill Rd. - Church Rd. - Higher Lane - Agden Brow. All this takes place on a stretch of road no more than 4 miles long.

Travelling via Lymm village centre towards Manchester we have - Eagle Brow - The Cross - New Rd. - Rush Green Rd. - Birchbrook Rd. - Warrington Rd., all the same road and about 3 miles long,

Now I know that from the centre of Accrington all the way to Intack it's just Blackburn Rd., even if the numbers start again at West End, and then I think it's Accrington Rd. 'til you get to Eanam (I may be wrong - it's 45 years ago).

Why no Oswaldtwistle Rd.? I think it's to do with markets and churches. Roads were originally designated as pointers towards the next market town or the next parish church.
