I may be able to help you out here Less.
For quite a while I was convinced that the deaf population of Accrington had increased quite severely.and not only that but deaf aids had got bigger.
I also observed that these deaf people were constantly talking to themselves.
A friend explained to me that the aids were in fact a type of communication device and that they were talking to other people of a similar disposition.
I thought it strange that deaf people tried to hide the fact that they were deaf and people that weren't deaf wanted to look like they were deaf.and indeed stupid by talking to themselves.
