First produced Terylene (generic name Polyester) at Broad Oak Printworks in 1941. It is still the most widely manufactured synthetic fibre. I do not know if it is still there, but on one of the buildings at Broad Oak there was a plaque commemorating the event. It was on the left hand side as you walked through the works in a southerly direction towards Bash.
