Its been stated that 2% of one pound coins are fakes, or around 30 million. They reacon its easy to tell, If you hold the coin with the queens head facing you virtical, whatever is on the other side should also be virtical, if its not is a dud, also the writing around the edge is very poor type face or is missing altogether. I have a few pound coins and I've checked mine and they are all genuine
