I think steel jack may really mean a PVR rather than DVR as in DVD -R

teh answer is yes, you do need a DVD recorder or PC that can take video in though as few offer any form of direct burning teh MPEG stream.

teh unability to use VCR what do you get? how is it connected? over a standard aerial wire or scart etc? if its aerial then they may be broadcasting on the same channel and be interferring.
