With increasing heating bills, I'm looking at alternatives. Can we discuss that subject here?

First off: is there anyone sufficiently knowledgeable to advise on installation of an air-sourced heat-pump. I'm thinking of a unit mounted on the roof pushing out warm air in the basement!? Is this feasible? Does it work well over winter?
