I remember being told one about creatures whose feet were backwards .... they were supposed to lurk in the paint works yard on Rishton Rd. in Clayton.

The one that scared me most had nothing to do with monsters: my gran told me that when I had a bump on my head, I had to have a bandage on it. And under the bandage, and over the bump was an old penny. My gran said that if the bandage was taken off and the penny moved, the bump would explode. Maybe it was a trick to get me not to take and spend the penny ... in those days, a penny was worth something. A one way train ride from Accy to Ossy was only three halfpence.
