You are right on there .... a university puts a hell of a lot of "dosh" into the local economy .... Queens University at Kingston, the oldest degree granting institution in English Canada, puts over 2 billion dollars annually into Kingston ... and the students, most of them well-heeled, spend over 250 million.

... there would be fewer problems with pub and store closings with all those students spending their cash.
An aside: Part of Queens campus is in England. Queens owns Herstmonceux castle in Sussex, donated by a grateful alumnus, Alfred Bader, who also gave Queens a couple of Rembrandts.
