That's because its hearsay.
Either way we know full well that the 1922 committee tried to push this through, so the Conservatives are as wrong as Labour were. Just didn't get to see which way people would have voted. I imagine wastes will be found on both sides of the house when they are eventually revealed. What I hope is that publishing them will encourage waste to never happen again.
