I was only ten years old when we left Baxenden to go to live in Southport. So I didn't really have an option, my parents considered me too young to branch out on my own! The reason we moved was that my father, who was a foreman at Broad Oak, bought a hardware shop in Southport and went into business for himself.
You're right, Southport is a lovely town but has been taken over by the yob culture making it unsafe to walk along Lord Street after dark. How very, very sad!
