This is what I'm thinking too, Jaysay.
I can understand what Gayle is saying about girls looking a lot older than their years due to clothes and make-up and I can understand how a man might meet a girl in a pub and believe her to be 18 and then be shocked later to find out she's only 14.
I don't know all the details of this case but it seems clear that this man knew the girl was only 14 and he told her not to tell anyone or he'd get into trouble.
Struggling to have relationships with women since becoming a widower does not excuse this in my book.
