I've no problems with firms in the private sector paying their employees whatever they see fit, but in this critically sensitive time I think the rises of public servants should be capped.

My biggest ever pay rise was when my salary was more than doubled overnight, because I'd bagged Diana Princess of Wales as a client. I worked for a private company, and my employer thought I worth it.

I'm sure if fat cats in the councils don't like what they are being paid, I'm sure there are plenty of newly redundant workers from banking and the City, who'll glady fill any vacancies.
