I don't like people who flutter their eyelashes and simper while sharpening the knives to back-stab anyone who gets in the way of their progress. Esther has a "public face" full of sympathy for everyone but her real priority is always Number One. She makes a great deal of her tragic widowhood without ever referring to the fact that she deliberately stole her late husband from his first wife and has admitted as much in the past. She was also instrumental in getting her one-time boss, Bernard Braden, sacked from his consumer-watchdog type programme - so she could take his place.
