His pen-name was Milton Allan. His most famous work was 'Old Pendle', for which he wrote the words and the music. It has 3 verses. he also wrote 'Pendle witches' (which was dedicated to Accrington High School ) 'Waddington fells'.Bonny Downham' 'Old Wheatley' 'Bonny Ruth of Sawley',. 'Barrowford' 'Walloper Well' and others. he called them 'folk songs' and termed them 'Songs of the Pendle Country' He was doing this in the late 30s/early 40s. Accrington High School was built in 1939 Previous to then, Accrington Grammar School was 'mixed'. He lived at 13 Sandy Lane. His Christian name was spelled with a double 'L- - Allan and he had a middle name which began with an 'E'.

He had strong connections with Burnley and sought make his songs known to schoolchildren.
