Allotment fires - I've seen quite a few, since I live right next to a large area of allotments.
They sometimes burn 'green wood', which is organic stuff that still has lots of sap in it - that's when it produces excessive smoke.
There was once such a fire only 25ft from my flat, which filled the stairwell with smoke.
I went out with a bucket of water and threw it on the oil drum he was using as a brazier next to the fence.
At the time I looked up the regulations about such fires, and found I had cause to complain to the local enviromental health dept.
I reasoned with the man who did it and he has not done it again since.
but that may be due to the arsonists who destroyed his buildings soon after - wasn't me, honest - just karma maybe


PS on second thoughts - that smoke is too black to be organic waste - I suspect he's burning old tyres, which is very naughty of him.
