I think cyclists should have to be insured, but road tax would be ridiculous considering the lack of wear and tear a bicycle has on a road and the lack of need for parking, or certainly much space to part.
I see little point in trying to justify the use of cars to a student who can't afford one and HAS to take the bus along with thousands of others, particularly one whose family doesn't own a single car at all or have a licence between them.
Most people don't even need to leave the house these days for grocery shopping when there is such thing as online shopping with quite low cost delivery, if not free when you spend over a certain amount.
I think people just don't like cutting back on their luxuries. Having never driven, I simply can't appreciate all this fuss. The bus is not above me, and neither is walking. Lots of students have those shopping bags on wheels here! I love living in a city where the Green Party has real influence.
