I do believe that "at this point in time" was coined by John Dean of Richard Nixon fame. But, for the life of me (and I don't much care for this one either), I can't figure out why one should replace a perfectly useful word, "now", with a five word phrase. But not all of us remember Watergate .....

And that's another peeve of mine ... whenever there is a govt. scandal, it is often described as a "something-gate" .... and putting "plex" at the end of words: a multi-screen cinema becomes a Cineplex ... yecch. And putting "pre" at the beginning of words: "pre-wash", "pre-heated oven", "pre-boarding" at the airport.
