I also think that any help must be of the persons/organisations own volition........though a gentle bit of canvassing doesn't hurt......I think we should be aware that 'Charity Fatigue' is very real, and can hinder what is a genuine, heartfelt campaign.
I'm sure you know what I mean by 'Charity Fatigue'......it is a situation when everywhere you turn, there are folk begging for money for a particular cause.

The campaign to raise money needs to be gentle enough not to alienate people, but robust enough to get the money in, and make people feel that they have helped in whatever way they can.

It might help for those who donate money to have their donation recognised........maybe the Observer or the Telegraph would donate some column inches to a list of benefactors.......It would not be necessary to list the amount of the donation....and this would only work for those who donated money and left their details.
