That is because some people are stupid.
one of the banks I use phoned me the other day and asked for me by name. They then said they needed to do a security check to prove who I was. I said hang on a minute you phoned me, it should be me doing the security check on you not the other way around. I asked if there was a problem with the account and was told no. I then politely ( don't laugh I can be polite
) said, please write to me with whatever it is you want. The person said ok and I put the phone down.
This same bank does this every few months and always gets the same response from me.
