But, it's not as if we live in fear of criminals breaking into our homes here. Kingston is a peaceful little city with excellent police service from the Kingston Police and the OPP .... there is also a detachment of Mounties here. However, if, in the event of someone breaking into my home, I choose to defend myself and my property, I would not feel bound to check the law before acting in what I consider to be my best interests. Which does not, of course, extend to chasing someone down the street jamming magnums into my twelve gauge so that I can blow his legs out from under him. You never know, I might miss (unlikely) and hit an innocent squirrel.
