The jury ("12 good men and women and true"), who had heard all the evidence (unlike anyone on this forum) found beyond reasonable doubt that he was no longer protecting his family, but wreaking revenge, and convicted him of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent (maximum life imprisonment).
