Oh I don't know, there could be something in what Eric is saying. It's like being put on probation really, you do a good job and the people will support you and want you to carry on so you get an extension. You start turning people over and you're seen for the shyster you are you're out on your ear. Added to that it's only a year so the damage could be limited.
Someone who does continually well could then be given a 2 year contract as a "vote of confidence" so they carry on in the same vein, but with a 6 month warning order meaning, you've got the job but you start to go off line & get ideas you go on probation for 6 month & if you've not bucked up you're out. Can't hurt any !
