the decline in local newspaper readership is one of things local politicians and civil servants love more than anything , fewer reporters who live in the area asking 'delicate' questions means less overview .
Used to be it was the way that you found out that someone you had once worked with or gone to school with had 'passed over' or the young lass from the next street whose wedding had been reported a year ago had given birth to twins , just general community news ... I'm thinking the local 'crime report" which everyone read was a better detterant than the present day ABSOs which rarely get a mention.
