Oh for the days of the No. 1 bus route. Every stop (although if I'm wrong, someone will correct me) a pub. Several times, I set off to meet friends at the Black Dog (yes, I drank in Ossy

) ... and never made it past the Forts Arms. On a couple occasions, I stopped in at the Village Blacksmith and never made it to the bus stop.
However, here's my two cents' worth, I don't think the multi-cultural thing is good for the United Kingdom. S'ok over here, where everyone apart from the First Nations is from somewhere else. But in your country .... nah. In Quebec, the one province of Canada where there is a fairly homogenous group of long time settlers (that's what the First Nations call us), there is a strong tendency to pass laws to protect the unique nature of the Quebecois. Recently, a bill has been introduced in the Quebec National Assembly; this bill when passed, will make it illegal for anyone to present him/herself at any government office, or for any government service with a covered face (where you buy these covered faces I don't know; maybe Walmart). All signs and services are in French. All new immigrants must have their children educated in French schools. And all must cheer for the Montreal Canadiens
