There's an old adage about this:

'If someone asks to borrow £20 and you never see them again, it was probably worth it.'

Of course, you're £20 down on the deal but it's no bad thing having the occasional spring clean of fairweather friends. At 32, some people may say that I'm prematurely cynical but I'm happy in the knowledge that I have four or five true mates who look out for me as much as I look out for them.
