Back in '62, the Cold War was a stark reality. And everyone in Britain was aware of the four minute warning: this meant, that in the case of a nuclear attack, the warning sirens would go off just after the bombs landed. Those who didn't live through those days don't realize just how close we came to the "unthinkable". So, I guess we were protesting about being dragged to the edge of extinction ... and until the Russians backed down in the craziest game of chicken ever played, it was definitely touch and go.
