I think(and I am sure John will correct me if I am wrong) Johns experience of the Community matron, in league with the GP, in keeping John in his own home...it is a good thing...so that is where John is coming from.......but it is a full time job managing a lumbrous beast like the NHS......I don't think you can 'bolt' it on to other responsibilities shouldered by GPs.

I am sure there are swathes of NHS manager that could be ditched without it hurting the service(as long as the government do as they promise and ditch the red tape and bureaucracy).
I would not have left the NHS when I did if I had not been under pressure from government targets and political crap.......Doctors and nurses should be allowed to look after patients......not spend countless hours form filling and box ticking......an expensive use of precious resources.
