CHRIS HUGHTON is prepared to risk a massive Carling Cup upset at Accrington tonight – by resting all 11 players who started Newcastle’s 6-0 win over Aston Villa.

The Geordies still have chilling *memories of being sent crashing out of cup competitions by non-League Bedford in 1964 and Hereford in 1972.

And, while Accrington Stanley are now in their fourth season back in the Football League, a home win at the tiny Crown Ground would rank alongside those *previous humiliations for the Toon.

Hughton, however, has sufficient faith in the club’s young players to feel *confident Newcastle won’t be shocked – as they were last year by defeat in the third round at Peterborough.

Hughton said: “It is a risk, but the team I send out will be picked for a *combination of reasons.
“What we don’t want to do is give *Accrington or the competition a lack of respect – but we are stretched in certain areas, particularly defence.

“We do have to look after our own *business and consider Saturday’s match at Wolves. That will be reflected.”

Youngsters such as keeper Tim Krul, Kaz LuaLua, James Tavernier, Tamas Kadar and Haris Vuckic are all handed rare first-team outings tonight.

Slovenian Vuckic, 18, is being tracked by Manchester United. Hughton added: “He is a talented boy and an exciting prospect.

“We are looking *forward to seeing him play and believe he has a bright future.
“I have faith in these young players and, if I did not think we could win this game with them involved, I would not make these changes.”

Accrington boss John *Coleman does have links to the Toon, as he knows Kevin Nolan’s family and played with Ryan Taylor’s dad.

Coleman said: “There will be a bit of banter with them. It’s always nice to see the lads do well.”

To be taken with more than a pinch of salt Cashy ??

ANOTHER RED-LETTER DAY FOR THE REDS
