Hello - have you tried
FamilySearch.org - Family History and Genealogy Records - this has the 1881 census free online if
you know names of grandparents/grt.grndparents. Ancestry also offer a free 2 week trial
which can give you lots of clues. Lancashirebmd and rootschat.com are also excellent.
