Better late than never...........Today is 'Lancashire Day'. It was on 27th November 1295 (?) that the first men who were in effect Lancashire's MPs went down to sit in the king's parliament, and so this date was chosen to be the date when Lancastrians rejoice in their priveleged birth and proclaim their allegiance to Her Majesty the Queen, the Duke of Lancaster. Many will be wearing a red rose. I will be so doing in the Peel Park pub tonight, drinking Lancashire-brewed ale and eating Lancashire-made food.

There is no county of Greater Manchester , nor Merseyside.

The document of inquisition into the holdings of Thomas Earl of Lancaster, who was executed for treason against his uncle Edward the 2nd, was signed by the Edward the 2nd on July 30th 1322 at Newcastle on tyne. That is when the whole of Lancashire finally passed to the Crown, and became the Duchy of Lancaster.
