I only ever got pulled for speeding once, was back in the seventies in a works van on the duel carriageway going into Chorley, thought it was a 40 was doing 36, I mentioned it to a workmate when I got back to base, he advised me to write a groveling letter to the chief constable at Chorley, which I did, I said I had a clean licence and on this occasion was a little late for a job fitting a shop out (which incidentally was opposite the nick in Chorley) about 10 days later I got a reply saying that on this occasion no further action would be taken but the incident would remain on the file and could be used in any other road traffic incident I may be involved in, it never was and is unlikely it will ever I stopped driving 16 years ago for medical reasons
